Sofia Vergara’s spectacular makeover that earned her Emmy nomination

After leaving behind a few bitter months due to her divorce from Joe Manganiello , Sofía Vergara started the year in the best way thanks to a new project that was going to bring her a lot of joy. Griselda , the Netflix series that premiered on the platform last January in which she was not only the protagonist but also one of the executive producers, became one of the most watched fictions on its premiere throughout the world. Her role based on a true story playing Griselda Blanco , a Colombian drug trafficker and criminal founder of the Medellín Cartel, has meant a before and after in her career.

Not only because, as she has acknowledged, it has been quite a challenge, but because with it she has become the first Latina actress to be nominated for an Emmy in the category of Best Leading Actress. The awards given by the American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences are considered the Oscars of the small screen, so being among the favorites to win the award is in itself quite an achievement for the actress who has won it, not only for her brilliant performance, but also for her impeccable characterization.

Without the makeovers that actors undergo, it would be much more difficult to tell a story well, since both the costume and the appearance influence the creation of the character, and even more so if the character is (was) a real person, as in the case of Griselda. That’s why Sofia Vergara had to undergo one of the most surprising transformations we’ve seen so far in the actress, forgetting about her long hair, her smooth skin and her perfect makeup.

So, the director and executive producer of the series, Andrés Baiz, agreed with Sofía to create a beauty look that would make her feel like she was another person without the prosthetics or makeup taking over her performance. In other words, everything would be subtle. The result? Something completely different from her previous role in Modern Family and with which we stopped seeing the gorgeous Sofía Vergara to see Griselda Blanco in the 70s: long curly bob hair , unkempt face and much more prominent features.
