The Santa Clotilde Gardens, Leonor and Sofia’s visit to Lloret de Mar

July 22, 2024

There are many ways to visit the famous Costa Brava , especially during the summer, a prodigious coastline facing the Mediterranean where you will find some of the most beautiful coves in the country and charming villages where it is easy to lose track of time. But there are also other wonderful corners, perhaps less known, such as its gardens on the cliffs. Three great treasures that this coast hides and that we find in the Cap Roig gardens, in Palafrugell; the Marimurtra botanical garden, in Blanes; and the Santa Clotilde gardens, in Lloret de Mar.

Following their visit to the workshop of Catalan sculptor Jaume Plensa, where they were welcomed by the artist himself, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía will meet with young people as part of the Princess of Girona Foundation’s programmes in the Santa Clotilde Gardens, which will be another of the day’s main events tomorrow.

Many things can be said about these gardens, but especially that they are a real treat. More than 25,000 square metres of green spaces on the cliff and with impressive views of the Mediterranean.

they were designed in 1919 by the landscaper and architect Nicolau María Rubió i Tudurí, the greatest exponent of Catalan landscaping, on land that was previously occupied by vineyards. The gardens were commissioned by the Marquis of Rovirauta, with the desire to create a classic Renaissance garden on the Ampurdán coast . They are named after his first wife, who died at a young age.
